The PSAT Is Digital Now — Here’s What That Means
The PSAT/NMSQT moved to a digital, adaptive format in fall 2023. If you are working from an older prep book or a practice PDF you found floating around, check it against this before you trust it:
- 2 hours 14 minutes, not the old 2 hours 45 minutes.
- Two sections, not five: Reading and Writing (64 minutes, 54 questions) and Math (70 minutes, 44 questions) — 98 questions in 134 minutes.
- Each section is split into two modules, and it adapts. How you do on the first module decides how hard your second module is.
- Reading passages are short — one short passage per question, rather than long passages with a batch of questions.
- A graphing calculator is built in (Desmos) and you can use it on the entire Math section.
- No penalty for wrong answers, so never leave anything blank.
- Scores run 320–1520 (160–760 per section).
- You take it in Bluebook, College Board’s testing app, on a laptop or tablet.
Anything built for the paper PSAT — five sections, 25-minute blocks, a quarter-point deduction for wrong answers, sentence-completion questions — is testing a format that no longer exists. We used to list eight of those old paper tests on this page. They are gone, because there is now far better official material.

Free Proctored Practice Test Events
Princeton Review runs free PSAT practice tests and events you can sit under proctored conditions, online or near you, and you get a score report back. Use their finder to see what is scheduled — availability changes through the year, and it is busiest in the run-up to the October test date.

How to Take a PSAT Practice Test
Your goal is to simulate test day. Time yourself properly, and answer every single question — there is no penalty for a wrong answer, so a guess is always worth more than a blank. If you are practising in Bluebook, take it on the same device you plan to test on.
Take a full test cold, early, as a diagnostic. It tells you your baseline and, more usefully, exactly which skills are costing you points — which is what you build a study plan around. Then space the remaining tests out rather than burning through them; there are 13 here, but they are only worth anything if you review each one properly before starting the next.

8 Official Digital SAT Tests You Can Use as PSAT Practice
The digital SAT and the digital PSAT are built the same way — same two sections, same adaptive modules, same question types. The SAT just runs a little longer and pushes further in Math. How to Use the SAT Practice Tests for PSAT Prep
Treat them exactly as you would a PSAT practice test: timed, in one sitting, no interruptions. The Math will reach a bit beyond what the PSAT asks of you, so do not panic at the harder end of it — that is the SAT showing, not a gap in your PSAT prep. For more on practising well, see our PSAT tips.
The score is the least interesting thing a practice test gives you. What matters is the review afterwards: go through every question you missed, and every one you guessed right, and work out why. That is the part that actually moves your score.
