Khan Academy is the only 501(c)(3) nonprofit that we’ve come across in the test prep industry that offers comprehensive prep courses for free. Started in 2008 by Sal Khan, a former hedge fund analyst, Khan Academy has received large grants from Google and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Since then, Khan Academy has built out practice exercises, instructional videos, and personalized learning dashboards for test prep, math, science & engineering, arts & humanities, computing, economics & finance, and more.
Khan Academy has been carefully tracking the learning outcomes for students who use their courses. They have found that Khan Academy is positively associated with better-than-predicted test scores, lower math anxiety, and greater confidence. Students who utilized their SAT course, for example, saw an average 30-point increase. Numerous other studies performed by Khan Academy show similar increases in math scores in various school districts. With partnerships across school districts as well as with the College Board (makers of the SAT) and LSAC (makers of the LSAT), you can rest assured you are utilizing a reputable prep product.
